Action Area

Project: Active protection of endangered species of Charadriiformes on the Vistula River islands: implementation of selected protection tasks in the area of SPA Dolina Środowej Wisły PLB140004.
We will carry out active protective measures on the most valuable natural section of the Vistula riverbed. The river here, for the most part has the character of a braided lowland river, unique in Europe: irregular sinuous with several channels, many different formations in the channels and steep banks not shaped by man. Only in such environment habitats suitable for nesting of a bird community characteristic for natural lowland riverbeds could develop.
Continuous presence throughout the year on a nearly 100-kilometre stretch of the river requires permanent accommodation in the immediate vicinity. Below we present a short story, description and address of our field station, without which it would not be possible to carry out comprehensive large-area protection activities.

Area of field activitie

86-kilometer section of the Vistula River between Puławy (km 371 of the waterway) and the mouth of the Pilica River (km 457 of the waterway) covering the southern and central part of the Natura 2000 site Dolina Środkowej Wisły PLB140004. Administratively, it is located in two voivodships: Lubelskie (powiats: puławski and rycki) and Mazowieckie (powiats: kozienicki and garwoliński).
